CHAPTER ONE Ubale, a brawny-looking and wide-chested young man of average height with square-shaped face and pointed nose, prided himself as the speediest haulier who amongst his peers stood out and, in turn, earned him myriad of praising names.  He became undeniably famous with his trailer amongst his fellow for his commitment and intrepidity as a herdsman with his cattle, and he was, of course, one. He was romoured to have a charm for his evading swift driving, and which had been safeguarding him against accident even when he was not too sober. He always wore a right-hand amulet that even  his bosom friend, Isiya, with whom he drove all the times, had never seen him without it nor did he ever had time to explain its purpose.  "We have never been ambushed by robbers nor arrested by police along our way," Isiya, would usually comment boastfully, "And, this is because of his amulet."  I have been quietly thinking, if not for amusement, how could ever science - just imagine how we come to know about Newton's law of motion, Boyle's law etc. - be meaningful without language?  Was it because Buhari was speaking Hausa comfortably when he ill-advised the students who by all conjuncture, I'm even certain, need English more than the science to comprehend the science embedded in the language they are being taught with in their school. 85% of students who fail, in the North to be specific, their exams have been usually as the result of the gap in communication. Many of them are too intelligent to fail (believe me); if not for deficiency in English, they would have been doing well. Also, there are many who English has made to be opportunistic. It is not because they are the smartest but lucky somewhere to be able to speak the language and thus, opportunities keep on knocking their doors. HER EYES IS A HEAVEN Eyes is the heaven of a woman For they speak what lips can't say.
