Every day humbles me

Image
Every day I wake up, I find more reasons to keep trying towards fulfilling my dream. I feel the touch of God tapping my rickety shoulders as if telling me to calm down, and "take your time." I feel that God is more empathetic in that, wishing to grant every prayer I make, even though waiting for the best of all moments. This is the real touch that shakes the balls of my eyes to tears, remembering how overburdened the needs on my shoulder - mother, wife, child, relatives and the entire humanity - making me more effortful and wanting to work hard. Each moment humbles me, for no matter how I try, there shall always be those above me, and below me are others dying to be like me. What more lessons are beyond this simple fact that most can't see. It is my prayer that life grants me this wish - humility and to remain a "courteous spectator" - as a friend described me - to all events neither harming nor being harmed. ©Anas Dansalma       31st March, 2024

The Hard Way...

Image
CHAPTER ONE Ubale, a brawny-looking and wide-chested young man of average height with square-shaped face and pointed nose, prided himself as the speediest haulier who amongst his peers stood out and, in turn, earned him myriad of praising names.  He became undeniably famous with his trailer amongst his fellow for his commitment and intrepidity as a herdsman with his cattle, and he was, of course, one. He was romoured to have a charm for his evading swift driving, and which had been safeguarding him against accident even when he was not too sober. He always wore a right-hand amulet that even  his bosom friend, Isiya, with whom he drove all the times, had never seen him without it nor did he ever had time to explain its purpose.  "We have never been ambushed by robbers nor arrested by police along our way," Isiya, would usually comment boastfully, "And, this is because of his amulet." From his instinct, he believed the amulet to be protective with enormous power becau...

English is Necessary

I have been quietly thinking, if not for amusement, how could ever science - just imagine how we come to know about Newton's law of motion, Boyle's law etc. - be meaningful without language?  Was it because Buhari was speaking Hausa comfortably when he ill-advised the students who by all conjuncture, I'm even certain, need English more than the science to comprehend the science embedded in the language they are being taught with in their school. 85% of students who fail, in the North to be specific, their exams have been usually as the result of the gap in communication. Many of them are too intelligent to fail (believe me); if not for deficiency in English, they would have been doing well. Also, there are many who English has made to be opportunistic. It is not because they are the smartest but lucky somewhere to be able to speak the language and thus, opportunities keep on knocking their doors. Some even rose to hold political offices with no practical ingenuity of scien...

HER EYES IS A HEAVEN

HER EYES IS A HEAVEN Eyes is the heaven of a woman For they speak what lips can't say. She has two round sparkling eyes Her sclera reminds me of heaven And the hue coloured circle poses Like the bulb of an iris flower blown By the breeze of an utter amazement Which makes her smart lens stretch Casting their looks on me like spells While her steep arched eyebrows Will widen the two stars sparkling Making me crazier than I ever thought To quickly react with elation.. Yes, I have seen her, Bilkisu I would reply God with gratitude For letting me see how paradise Which I always pray for looks like. Penned by; (c)Anas Ɗansalma 1st August, 2020. For you as my barka da Sallah, the moon of my heart.

I WILL BE YOUR WORSHIPPER

Image
The touch of your love Upon my harden heart Is like the touch of God Upon an unbeliever's heart When no one is expecting him To believe in the sanctity of your grace That I believe you're the most grandeur That have ever existed to me And much more worthy of my worship. Just know Bilkisu, Your heart will be a temple Where I shall always bow in devotion And with each day I will grow piety That you yourself will have to reward me With the paradise buried in your heart.

A Letter To My Death Angel

Dear my death angel, Where have you been?               Come as much closer to me As you have always wanted to be. Dear my death angel, Don't you hear me groaning              For my loudest bleeding wounds Which are the story of misfortune? Dear my death angel, Don't you know I'm a wounded prey                Hunted by avaricious canines Who want to rip my flesh apart? Dear my death angel, Come to the North where I live                Forsake me not to the demons Whose bullets are more ruthless than you. Dear my death angel, My house is now a pool of blood                Brimming over my tattred head Filled with the fear of my marauders. Dear my death angel, Night is day and day is night                To me that I could see them ...

A BROKEN THUNDER

Image
Daam! Daam! Daam! It breaks, The sound of a broken thunder. Never do I ever heard of it before, But, now it’s the pulsation of my heartbeat. The thunder through the calm atmosphere, Came it as dark as Satan’s spiteful heart. Ratatatatah! Tastastastas! Ratatatatah! The sound of a heavy gun! The North is now a tatted garden asunder, Kidnapped I am day and night for ransom, That I've turned fountain for the vampires. Paralyzed we are with broken thunder, Driving us to untimely early graves, In numbers weakening our hands to bear. Ratatatatah! Tastastastas! Ratatatatah!                 The sound of a heavy gun! Fathers weep for their lovely pregnant wives, Mothers weeping for their innocent children, While children yell at corpses of their parents Everyone jittery and everywhere condolences, Which throw its stinging throes in our hearts As love kept reincarnating their bodily mirages Daam! Daam! Daam! It breaks, T...

RAPE: IS IT BECAUSE OF INDECENCY IN DRESSING OR IS A SELF-CENTRED CHEAP WAY TO DRIVE PLEASURE?

Image
I have seen how mistful torrents of pitiful posts and publications over the piteous raping cases that have filled the heaven hanging on newspapers, Facebook, and other social media platforms have been trending. I want to join hands in condemning this repulsive attitude. I have also read a myriad of views ranging from the female and male adults who have disappointingly condemned such acts. I was appalled by those who argue, mostly, from the female counterparts that indecent dressing by our young ladies which is accompanied with coquettish attitude is not a reason for why raping is becoming wild devouring the virginity of many innocent girls and babies. I won't say, with no pretentious male condescending and belittling reproach to the feminine gender that, despite being very innocent, their mode of dressing has been a strong wind that fans the men's (rapists) randiness. It is flimsy and characterless, even from atheistic or any form of a sense of reasoning, to think that n...

I have seen humans Superb in theology and critique That when they speak of God The heaven bows at their words And from their holy lips drift A stream of ceaseless truth Their brains are loaded with verses Whose rendition they alter to advocate What their whims best desire to achieve That which sounds music to their listeners While reading God in their feeble hands Losing the core notion of their deen Deen is sincerity in monotheism Believing His scripture pragmatically Loving His massagers boundlessly To obey their Islamic leaders compliantly Where orders meet objective righteously When the common folk live fraternally Sincerity reminds me of Salmanul Farisi Of noble birth and unquantifiable love Who roamed from freedom to slavery Who penetrate the shadows of darkness to light  Whose instinctive sincerity led him far distant Land of Mecca to quench his thirty for utter truth      This is sincerity of faith

KATSINA PEOPLE ARE DYING

KATSINA PEOPLE ARE DYING When you look at Katsina You will see how woe is befalling Like a thunderstorm razing homes  Instilling deep muted resounding terror Like a lion devouring every single peace. When you look at Katsina Death is no longer a shy abstract shadow For day and night it chases every soul Women, children and few men fleeing Littering every inch with a bloody corpse When you look at Katsina They've forgotten COVID-19 or NCDC update They're not asking for the fake palliatives They're only asking for a security taskforce They're only demanding the chance to live. When you look at Katsina You will see reincarnation of Sambisa You  will see negligence of governments You will see Mr. President's home town Bowing before the indecent marauders.  Ya Allah help Katsina people. Negligence is the reason for the deteriorating Almajirci system in Northern Nigeria

First of  all, I am not in support of the Almajirci system at this critical moment of the Northern value decadence. But, I would wish to share my view in regards to negligence as the reason for Almajirci system's deterioration that made people see it as evil and thereby blame the Hausa people who by all justification deserve so, but quite unfair when directed to the children who are mere victims of negligence. Almajirci is not a bad culture as people project it, it is only a neglected culture that couldn't be incorporated into our modernity which has made it fail that even the government and the masses shamelessly blame the victims whose villages to date are suffering substandard boko educational system, lack of agricultural input, absence of drinkable water, except if the rain falls; infrastructure and absence of social amenities that are no longer a political bait because they (villagers) were made to think they are only possible in the city. By genetic pedigree of the...

A BOUQUET TO MY MOTHER

Image
If ever I could live as a gardener who grow flowers, Roses; red as blood in us that defines our pedigree, With radiant buds dancing in the breeze, I will be a demi-love God, giving them wings, Amusing them with childhood stories, How mother will bathe me in the morning, Yet before noon dusty and at night fast asleep, I will tell them how much softer were your lips, Softer than a lover’s heart who kisses their round buds, At the sight of their damsel's smiling face, I will remind them how patiently I nursed them up, Watering, protecting an' feeding them with love, I will tell them my mom did more than that, So much that they’ll be gripped tight by your awe, Like a nerdy boyfriend’s first date flower grip, So firm that their urge to fly in search  of you is unbearable, I'll inspire them as tireless as you used to be, To fly higher and travel to your abode, They shall like drizzle fall on your rooftop, And like I always did jump and run to hug you, Remembe...

REPLY TO BASHIR AHMAD, NEW MEDIA AIDE TO THE PRESIDENT ON SENATOR RABI'U MUSA KWANKWASO'S LETTER ON THE SORROWFUL STATE OF KANO STATE. Dear Bashir Ahmad, I am shockingly staggered, with due respect sir, by your pretence of ignorance, as a young Nigerian, that letters personally sent to leaders hardly and sadly reach them or/and are oftentimes discarded with no trace of even acknowledgement. This fact has forced many concerned Nigerians of reputable publications and even the common growing youth to either be silent or send an open letters, at least, by doing so, it will serve as a way of clearing their conscience and to be a proof to their fellow people whom often hold them at fault for not writing such letters to authorities in order to let them know of their condition since aides like you and many others seemed oblivious or preoccupied…. Undeniably sir, no government succeeds without accepting constructive criticism, but for most of the write-ups scribbled to your govern...
TRIBUTE TO A DECEASED FRIEND (A short autobiography written by Anas Ɗansalma In memory of Tahir) On 10th April, 2020. "Whosoever has not been admonished by death will never be admonished by words of mouth." I grew up in a circle of friends, though very amicable to all, but very choosy in selecting those who I should come close to. Perhaps, it was because of my nerdy and introversive nature. I love to stay quiet and which often times has been making me to stay indoors in order to avoid the cacophonous argumentative topics like the football dispute that usually culminated in uproar and series of blows. The brawl last long until the bone of contention is broken by contrastive defeat. We also gab on most girl-pretty topics. It sounded exciting to look at pretty girls and try to discern which one is prettier than the other or even about the prettiest. To be candid, I do like such discussion, but had little respect for love. Therefore, I barely listened to them and inste...
DEATH If I remember death It makes me feel useless Than the fact that I exist To be buried beneath the earth Which I once walked and trampled Mindless that with each step I did I was digging deep my inescapable home Which therein I shall be forgotten to rot Not even my name some could remember Or how ugly beautiful I used to look Except for what I sow of love and humility Which shall pop up to their consciousness And then shall they say; Allah ya jiƙansa!
